BAILEY's bakery was located at 102 N. Main street next to W.W. REED's Drug Store. Lon PAYNE moved his restaurant here in 1930. Chuck and Martha REEVES owned a fruit market on the west side of the square when they came to Winchester from Union City, sold it and bought Payne's restaurant after he went to Muncie. The Reeves' sold it and bought the "Uptown Café," which would later become "The Rainbow." Ann NANCE opened her first "Courtesy Café" in this narrow room at 102 N. Main. When my mother and I walked to town we would eat here and tables lined the walls on both sides then. Lunches were .25 cents and pie and ice cream was also a quarter. This was around 1948-49. mh
